The Tantus Foundation:  2013 Community Outreach Year in Review

After an active year of volunteerism in 2012, Tantus challenged its employees to do even more in 2013.   Tantus employees answered the call, doubling our volunteer support of the Children’s Inn at NIH and Gifts for the Homeless, as well as stepping up financial support of ASHA for Women and The Harry K Foundation.

Since 2009, Tantus has actively supported the Children's Inn at NIH (The Inn), a residential facility that offers a healing environment for patients receiving ground breaking medical treatments at the NIH.  Families who travel to The Inn arrive from across the U.S., and are often exhausted from the day's travel.  To ease the stress for these families, organizations such as Tantus host “Family Dinners” to provide an opportunity for families to eat together as they adjust to a new environment.  However, a recurring challenge for The Inn is finding organizations to host Family Dinners every night of the year.  In 2013, Tantus worked with The Inn to identify dates of service when The Inn’s needs were greatest.

“After years of supporting The Inn, we understood some of their challenges, especially with regard to the Family Dinner program,” said Tantus Community Outreach Chair Scott Granieri.  “So this year, when we reached out to them we said ‘We are going to give you twice the support this year and we are going to do it when you need it most.  When do you have the hardest time finding organizations to host a family dinner?’”

The response back from The Inn was one of immense gratitude, and Tantus delivered with Family Dinners during the weeks before Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Tantus was also a sponsor of The Inn’s Annual Teen Retreat.  This event is one of the Inn’s favorite summer activities, a fun‐filled time with exciting activities for residents ages 12 and up.  Tantus sponsored the BBQ dinner that concluded the retreat, complete with ice cream sundaes for dessert.

Tantus employees also gave back in 2013 by collecting clothing for the Gifts for the Homeless (GFTH) clothing drive.  GFTH conducts an annual clothing drive to donate to local area shelters and transition housing facilities.  After setting a company goal of providing 500 lbs. of clothing for the GFTH drive, Tantus donations exceeded more than 1,000 lbs.

Tantus CEO Buck Keswani explained the Tantus commitment to greater community service and outreach. “As our company continues to grow, so must our community outreach participation.  If we are going to be a company that lives by our values, we need to continually pay back the community that we live and work in.  We challenged our team to make a bigger impact last year and they did so.   That same challenge will be issued again in 2014.”
